报告摘要

Abstract

Engineering demand parameters typically employed in Performance-Based Engineering, like interstory drifts and plastic rotations, are indirect indicators of ultimate element failure. For frame structures, Lumped Damage Mechanics (LDM) models can be employed, which lump plastic damage into hinges at beam element ends. The stiffness degradation at damage hinges allows load redistribution within hyperstatic structures. We apply stochastic seismic loading to symmetrical and asymmetrical frames, and track the evolution of global collapse mechanisms. We obtain realistic fragility curves for the global collapse modes. LDM models considered herein include reinforced concrete elements, and local buckling of tubular cross-sections.

Speaker Bio

Dr. André T. Beck is an associate professor at the Structural Engineering Department, University of São Paulo, Brazil. Prof. Beck holds a Ph.D. in Civil & Environmental Engineering from the University of Newcastle, Australia. His research interests include structural reliability analysis, performance-based engineering and structural optimization considering life-cycle costs. Dr. Beck has conducted major R&D projects for PETROBRAS and VALE, and has been sponsored by several research grants from CAPES, CNPq and FAPESP. Dr. Beck has supervised over 30 Masters and Ph.D. students, and is an active reviewer for nearly seventy international journals. He has published over 140 papers in international peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Beck is a member of the Scientific Committee of the journals Structural Safety, Reliability Engineering & System Safety, ASCE-ASME Journal of Risk and Uncertainty in Engineering Systems and associate Editor of the Journal of the Brazilian Society of Mechanical Sciences and Engineering.
