报告摘要

Abstract

In this lecture, an overview is presented of recent advances in our research group on uncertainty quantification in finite element models, with emphasis on large-scale, industrially sized models. Challenges regarding dimensionality of the underlying deterministic model as well as the representation of spatial intra-variability will be addressed. Specific recent developments towards surrogate modelling, interval field techniques and inverse approaches are highlighted, and illustrated with applications.

Speaker Bio

BioDavid Moens obtained his PhD from KU Leuven in 2002. Since 2008, he is a professor at KU Leuven in the Mechanical Engineering Department.  He is member of the Faculty of Engineering Technology on campus De Nayer, where he teaches several courses in the mechanical engineering curricula, including structural dynamics, numerical modelling and reliability topics. He has supervised 24 PhD students and 4 post-docs. As of 2020, he is vice-chair of the Mechanical Engineering department.

The topic of his research is uncertainty quantification (UQ) in mechanical engineering. The focus of his work is on UQ in modern advanced numerical modelling techniques, with the aim to assist and steer mechanical design problems for complex materials and manufacturing processes. His recent work integrates UQ tools into advanced finite element simulation schemes incorporating data-driven techniques. He believes in the growing need for UQ expertise in both academic research and industry, emphasizing translational research to bridge the gap.
