Abstract

Train A.I. algorithms for predicting the strength of reinforced concrete (RC) and steel structures.

A.I. and machine learning algorithms for the:

Development of the most accurate fundamental period formula for RC and steel structures with and without accounting for the soil-structure interaction effect.Development of predictive formulae for the deflection and rotation of curved steel I-beams.

Development of predictive formulae for the deflection and rotation of curved steel I-beams.Development of deep learning algorithms that can be implemented to numerous engineering problems.AI and high-performance computing applications.Replacing numerical modeling with AI models.

Development of Smart monitoring systems and assessment of railway infrastructure.

State-of-the-art numerical tools for the 3D detailed modeling of Steel Fibre Reinforced Concrete structures under monotonic and cyclic loading conditions.

Wind Turbine structures assessment accounting soil-foundation-structure interaction (SSI) effects. Maximum structural capacity under horizontal loading and pile foundation optimization.

Seismic assessment of Nuclear Reactor Buildings by accounting SSI effects.

Nonlinear dynamic analysis of RC structures with and without SSI considerations.

Assessment and optimum retrofitting design of RC structures through cyclic analysis.

Dynamic behaviour of wind turbine structures founded on soft soil. Maximum structural capacity under horizontal loading and pile foundation optimization.

Simulation and study of cracking and damage in reinforced concrete bridges.

Numerical investigation of determining the optimum prep of root canal teeth.

Speaker Bio

Dr. George Markou, is a researcher and academic in the field of computational mechanics, with a strong foundation in civil engineering. He completed his undergraduate studies with honors at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in 2004, where he was the recipient of numerous academic awards and scholarships. Dr. Markou has held academic and research positions in Cyprus, the UAE, Chile, the UK, and South Africa, and is currently a faculty member at the Cyprus University of Technology and a Research Associate at the University of Pretoria. His research spans a wide range of topics, including the finite element method, machine learning applications in engineering, structural health monitoring, seismic assessment of reinforced concrete structures, FRP material modeling, and high-performance computing. He is also the software architect of ReConAn FEA, a research finite element analysis platform developed for advanced structural simulations.
