Abstract

A deep transformation is occurring in industry, for improved safety, reliability, quality and efficiency. The internet of things and big data, the industrial internet, artificial intelligence, large language modeling and generative analytics are changing the way we design, manufacture, supply products and services.

In this continuously evolving industrial scenario, the increase in condition monitoring, information sharing, data availability and computational capabilities, and the advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI) methods and techniques for data analysis, image and text processing, offer new opportunities for the improvement in the way we do reliability and risk assessment.

In this lecture, I show some ways for utilizing AI for advancing and improving reliability and risk assessment, including:

• exploiting meta-modelling for system simulation within a computational reliability framework;

• developing natural language processing (NLP) frameworks for reliability assessment;

• using AI within grey-box modelling (GBM) for developing digital twins for real-time risk assessment.

Some reflections are provided with respect to the need of trustworthiness in AI solutions for reliability and risk assessment.
